Landscape & Abstraction
The subject matter of landscape & abstraction is the primary inspiration for my paintings, of which there is an intention to create a visual composition; that is aesthetically evocative & ambient.
The artwork references varied sources from traditional & expressionist landscape painting to contemporary minimalist abstraction,
The personal creative process stirs emotions & impressions of transient shadows, objects, nature and shapes which are gateways to memories; bringing forth the composition under changing conditions. The paintings are built up piece by piece, seeking compositional and conceptual resonance.
A formal process of rough outline, subtle painted texture & painting layers forms the main body of the compositions. More brushwork is usually applied on the more representational landscapes.
The work is both acrylic & mixed media including pastels, conte crayon, ink & spray paint.
